Open Your Eyes!"

Uploaded with Comments by lauraflanders
April 1, 2011

In the past days and weeks we've seen some very young people protesting in the streets, squares and statehouses around the world.

But what becomes of children who live through that reformation or regime change? The documentary, 'My Perestroika' tells the story of the last days of the USSR through the eyes of a group of former schoolmates who came of age as the world around them changed. The filmmaker is Robin Hessman. Distributed by Tubemogul.

Film Description

'My Perestroika' is an intimate look at the last generation of Soviet children. Five classmates go from living sheltered childhoods to experiencing the hopes of Gorbachevs reforms and the confusion of the USSRs dissolution, to searching for their places in todays Moscow. With candor and humor, the punk rocker, single mother, entrepreneur and married teachers paint a picture of the challenges, dreams and disappointments of those raised behind the Iron Curtain. Through first-person testimony, vrit footage and vintage home movies, this beautifully crafted documentary reveals a Russia rarely seen on film.

A co-production of Red Square Productions/Bungalow Town Productions and ITVS International in association with American Documentary | POV.
