Here is a summary of the advice given by Dr. Teitelbaum about the four steps for treating your arthritis, using the best of natural and prescription therapies:
1). Feed Your Joints - Take care of you overall nutrition, including plenty of Vitamin D, Magnesium and proteins, plus these supplements that have been shown to improve joint health:
A). Glucosamine Sulfate: 750mg x 2 daily.
B). MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane): 2500-3000mg daily
C). Chondroitin Sulfate: 1200mg daily (look for the "low
molecular weight" product).
2). Treat Inflammation - using natural products:
A). Willow Bark: proven to be as effective as Ibuprofen.
B). Frankincense (a.k.a. Boswellia): has been shown to have 90% effectiveness in patients suffering from
C). Cherry: Also high in antioxidants.
D). Ginger (dried) is also a great anti-inflammatory.
E). Fish Oil: If you have rheumatoid arthritis, with hot swollen joints, fish oil is particularly effective.
3). Reclaim Function - you must use your joints or you'll lose their range of motion, even though this may hurt:
A). Heating pads can relieve pain.
B). Walking is also very important but don't "push through pain" in excess.
C). If it hurts to walk, find a warm water pool where you can do walking exercises without straining your joints.
4). If You're Still in Pain: Check for food allergies and infections:
A). Especially in rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Teitelbaum says he will routinely use the antibiotic, doxycycline for
6 months to 2 years. A number of infections have been shown to trigger an immune reaction that causes rheumatoid arthritis in susceptible individuals.
B). NAET: Acupressure/Allergy Elimination Technique that is very effective to eliminate sensitivities.
Dr. Teitelbaum advises arthritis sufferers to follow these steps for 6 weeks and "You'll feel much better!"
